Wrestling
Wrestling keeps children active, teaches the value of hard work, helps them navigate both success and failure, and boosts their confidence like no other sport.
Legendary MMA Wrestling Program
Resilience
At Legendary MMA, we believe that losing is just as important as winning. As a wrestler, you must learn how to be tough – both physically and mentally. Wrestling takes a lot of energy, brainpower, and focus. In order to overcome a strong competitor, athletes must be able to continue to fight even after making a mistake.
Students at Legendary MMA are taught to celebrate their successes and learn from their failures. For kids, it’s easy to feel discouraged after losing a match. But as a wrestling student, you will quickly learn that every loss, error, and slip-up makes you a better athlete. Once you discover this, you will bring a new sense of peace onto the mat with you. For young students, wrestling provides them with a mental toughness that will help them stand up for themselves and others, build meaningful confidence, remain calm in stressful situations, and bounce back from hard times. Wrestling prepares kids for any curve ball life may throw and teaches them how to overcome!
Safety
Many parents’ first hesitation about signing their child up for wrestling is the sports’ safety. However, this fear couldn’t be any further from fact. According to Team USA, statistics reveal that wrestling is actually one of the safest sports for young athletes. They explain, “There is one official in charge of two kids and their safety. Not many other sports have that kind of coverage.”
Health and Fitness
While sports like soccer or volleyball are certainly good for you, they don’t offer nearly the same level of physical benefits. Wrestling requires kids to use just about every muscle in their body. This provides an amazing form of cardio that is sure to build your child’s strength, coordination, balance, and stamina. By beginning your son or daughter’s athletic journey in wrestling, you are setting them up for success in any other sport they may practice in the future. And, even more importantly, you are teaching them that fitness can be extremely fun!
Self-Defense
One of the best ways to build confidence in children (as well as ease the minds of parents) is to provide them with the ability to defend themselves. Luckily, wrestling is one of the best forms of self-defense that there is. As students train in wrestling, they will soon become stronger, more agile, quicker on their feet, and demonstrate a higher level of control.
While all martial arts offer potentially life-saving self-defense skills, wrestling presents unique advantages. Even the most simple wrestling techniques teach students how to bring a fight to the ground, gain control over an attacker, protect themselves from a variety of different moves, and think quickly. On top of all that, wrestling is the perfect introduction into other martial arts that specialize in grappling and self-defense – especially Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo!
